We received a thorough overview of the duties and expectations for the brief semester at our first lecture session. The presentations that educated us on the significance of graphics, their presence, and a recommended design approach for our research design process can be below here.

Task 1 : Project Proposal
Week 1 - Week 3 / 10 January 2023 - 25 January 2023
After the first lesson in our Intercultural Design class, my group and I immediately began brainstorming a number of different subjects that we might be considering to pursue. According to what I can recall, some of the subjects that were taken into consideration are given below.
- Japanese Fireworks
- Food Festival of the dead
- Malay Cultural Outfits
The lecturer in charge of our group approved our topic after we received the most votes for it—Malay Traditional Outfits. We were then instructed to update our topic and conduct additional research. That was a great topic, and I was eager to learn more about it as well.
We included as much knowledge as we could about Malaysian traditional clothing culture and its history in the project proposal, along with certain problem statements relating to the culture of traditional dress in the twenty-first century. Everyone was merely doing research and debating about the tradition of wearing traditional attire in Malaysia at this time.
The main objective of the project proposal was to present some of our knowledge, research, and additional materials, including sketches and historical context.
The drawings are meant to make it easier for you to understand the idea behind a particular traditional garment.
Along with the sketches, we also exchanged information about the many traditional outfits worn by Malaysians in the various states, as well as YouTube videos that helped us understanding it better. To better understand our project, one of our team members also went to a museum's display of traditional attire.
Last but not least, we attempted to design an app to preserve the traditional clothing from being extinct. This app essentially serves to revive the trend and encourage our youth to purchase more traditional apparel or engage in more traditional crafts.

The decision was made by our group to use the app, which we tried to create in order to prevent the traditional attire from going out of style. In short, this app encourages our youth to buy more traditional clothing or take an interest in more traditional crafts by reviving the trend.
Task 2 : Data Collection
Week 4 - Week 6 / 1 February 2023 - 17 February 2023
In terms of data collection, we began by considering simple ways to interact with our target audience and used our personal WhatsApp and Instagram contacts. We provide the URL of the Google Survey Form we used to collect a large number of replies from people. Then, in order to better comprehend traditional culture, we conducted a face-to-face interview with our fashion lecturer.
This is the link below to the questions -
Below are few examples of the response that we have gotten -

Task 3 : Final Project
15 February 2023 - 28 February 2023 / Week 6 - Week 8
My involvement in intercultural design was enjoyable and fruitful. I had the chance to learn about many Malaysian cultures throughout the programme, along with their values, beliefs, and traditions, and how those things affect design.
I learned during the module that multicultural design is more than just creating designs for many cultures. Understanding the historical background, cultural context, and personal preferences of several generations is necessary.
Overall, I really like working with this team and this group of people since we get along well and can effectively communicate our thoughts to one another. It was enjoyable to conduct research and create concepts with some new friends while also stepping outside of my comfort zone. I worked well with the other members of my team, and it was very fantastic.
Because I got to spend more time learning about Malaysian traditional clothes, the elements, and designing an app, I definitely learnt a lot during this process as well. In conclusion, I had a great time with this module.
